Ernst-Gerhard Klein, lately a resident of São Paulo, Brazil and formerly of Dothan, died April 30, 2007 after an extended illness. He was 85 years old.
Memorial graveside Services will be held 3:00 p.m. today, June l, 2007 at Sunset Memorial Park, Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Ted Richter officiating and Robert Byrd directing. Flowers are being accepted and can be delivered to Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home at 1808 Barrington Rd.
Mr. Klein was born on November l, 1921 in Siegen, Germany to Otto Klein and Käthe Magnus and spent his young life in Dahlbruch and Düsseldorf. He visited America for one year at the age of 19 in 1939 as a youth ambassador and grew a great fondness and love for the freedom and dynamics of the country, therefore he vowed to return. After the war Mr. Klein studied engineering, became an entrepreneurial engineer, returning to Canada and later the U.S. in 1950 for ten years, where he fulfilled several managerial positions in the steel and machine tool industry. He married Christiane Waldrich in 1950 and had 3 children. Returning to Germany in 1960 for 17 years he actively pursued several more managerial positions, specifically at Waldrich-Siegen, Westinghouse Power Division Europe, The Diag Group, in addition to running his own consulting Company, Vulcan. In 1977 he retired to Myrtle Beach, SC only to be called upon again to work as President of S & S Machinery, Vulcan Engineering in Wilkesbarre, PA to work for another 22 years of Professional life in a leading position. There he married Angela Taylor in 1978 and stayed there until 2001 when he retired to Dothan. Once in Dothan he was an active member of the Dothan Rotary Club and enjoyed traveling, but he never lost his entrepreneurial spirit and pursued new ideas and inventions for the machine industry. Throughout his career, Mr. Klein was active in several organizations to include The Transatlantic Bridge, the founder and President of the German Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization, and a supporting member of the German Engineer Association.
Mr. Klein was preceded in death by his parents and wives. He is survived by a daughter Katharina Klein, Munich; a son Lorenz Klein, Säo Paulo; a daughter Victoria Elouassil and husband Brahim, Munich; a grand-daughter Samira Elouassil; 2 nephews Rainer Volck and Gerd-Rudolf Volck.
