Notizen |
- Katherine Skorzewska captured first prize at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal. A member of the Métropolitain since its creation, she also works with several other classical ensembles in Montreal and throughout North America. In addition, she performs on a regular basis with the Société de musique Allegra, a chamber music ensemble, and on four occasions has been to India as one of its members.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Katherine Stern Skorzewska (born 26/08/1940) who passed away peacefully on November 16, 2020. She leaves behind her husband Olaf Skorzewski and four children, Anna, Jan, Andrew and Daniel (she was pre-deceased by her beloved son Peter) as well as seven grandchildren, Kassia, Clara, Eva, Samuel, Maya, Cleo and Colette and her only living family member Michael Stern and his wife Marilyn. There are many cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews and friends for whom she was an inspiration and support. Katherine stopped playing the cello to raise five children but then remarkably returned to the cello a decade later and had a very successful career. She was a founding member of Allegra Chamber Music and played with them for 30 years. She also played with the Orchestre Metropolitain de Montreal from its inception in 1981 until 2010. Katherine was much loved by all who met her. After her retirement, she took up visual art showing yet another talent. She was warm, loving and very funny, always ready with a pun. She will be sorely missed.
There will be a very small private ceremony with family only following COVID regulations, which will be live streamed for those who cannot attend (info here).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Allegra Chamber Music
